The first funding period of the Collaborative Research Center 1683 “Interaction Methods for the Modular Reuse of Existing Load-Bearing Structures” starts today.
Over the next few years, more than 50 scientists from the fields of civil engineering, architecture, mechanical engineering and computer science will be working on innovative solutions for the reuse of concrete components on a structural level. The aim of the project is to transform the resource-intensive concrete construction into a sustainable, circular construction method. Instead of recycling concrete, the building stock is specifically deconstructed so that elements such as slabs, walls or bars can be reused for new load-bearing structures. The Ruhr University Bochum, the University of Stuttgart, the Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology are involved in this pioneering project. We are looking forward to the interdisciplinary collaboration and to making a significant contribution to a more sustainable construction industry.
